Comfort Bears
Today I have the immense honor of mailing 375 comfort bears to the children of Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut. There are also 21 bears on their way from Holland and 54 bears being mailed from the U.S. for a total of 450 bears. It is a project that has taken only 5 days to complete. I am overflowing with love for these children, for all the people who are caring and helping the community, for my MJ friends who have joined us in buying these bears, for my sweet MJ sister Siren who has worn out her hands with cutting and tying tags by my side, and for Michael who has changed me into a person who does these kinds of things. He has taught me to think about others, to have compassion and love for people I don't know, and to take action when the idea comes.
I hope these bears will bring comfort to the children, but I realize that their purpose has also been to comfort all of us involved, at a time when we felt helpless and gave us a common purpose to bring us together in love.
Many of you already know about this Comfort bear project, but if anyone else would like to contribute to the purchase of the bears and the postage to mail them, you could PayPal $ to mjeverafter@gmail.com
The bears were purchased at Ikea, and $1 from the sale of each bear is donated to charity by the store.
They are soft and squishable for mailing, big enough for a child to snuggle, and the heart on their chest makes them perfect for this purpose. We put an armband tag with our logo on each one. You are all also welcome to join our group Michael's Messengers of Love if you would like to see more about this project. It was great that we already had this group established and ready to jump into action.
